Spring Nesting

With all the leaves off the trees I spotted this little nest outside the studio window woven in the branches. Not sure my husband signed up for climbing trees, but he did bring this in for me. It is an abandoned nest from last year. I took the liberty of tucking in a small faux egg for a spot of color. One of those paintings that you don't know how it will turn out until you are almost finished. Spring will arrive soon here in Northern California and birds will begin nesting again.

Spring Nesting won BEST IN SHOW in the February 2020 exhibit at The Gateway International Painting Competition.

Judges Comments: "The flowing, directional sweep of this beautifully balanced still life just draws us right in as we enjoy perusing the contrasting textures, varied edges, skillfully rendered forms and pleasing color harmony. The little blue egg in the spiraling nest is a sweet reward that reverberates in the mind and touches the heart."

Spring Nesting was juried into the National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society Spring 2020 OnLine Show.
