The Porterfields were my great grandparents. I can trace their ancestry to the 1100s in Scotland. My father adored his grandmother Sarah Jane Porterfield. They left their farm in Arkansas during the Civil War, returning to the farm when the war was over. Sarah Jane was born in Jake's Prairie, Gasconade County, Missouri - but spent most of her married life in Izard County, Arkansas. They never really had anything you could call fancy.
