Prélude began as a glimmer of a notion of a nothing of a whisper of a fragment of an idea, which needed to be fed. I was gifted a violin last December and it instantly struck me that it should be hanging on an old plaster wall. I have been laid up after ankle surgery so it gave me time to really think about this piece (in between daily gouache studies in the watercolor journal). Since I could not stand at the easel as I normally would, it needed to be approached slowly. So I gave it the space it needed while I learned more about violins. Each aspect of this painting was created with oil paint even though it looks like vintage papers were used. They are simply trope l'œil.
Prélude has been selected as one of the top 100 finalists in Plein Air Magazine's 13th Annual PleinAir Salon Art Competition. Yes, they have a Still Life Category.
Prélude has been juried into the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society' BEST OF AMERICA International Exhibition, 2023. It will be available at the Principle Gallery, 208 King Street, Alexandria, Virginia. Should this work sell prior to the Exhibition, it will still need to travel to the Principle Gallery for the Exhibition.
